Unlike rubies and sapphires, emeralds are naturally more fragile and almost always contain tiny fissures and inclusions (called jardin). These characteristics are generally accepted as proof of a natural stone's authenticity.
Emeralds are sensitive to heat, sudden temperature changes, and harsh chemicals. Clean them only using warm soapy water and a soft cloth; never use ultrasonic or steam cleaners.
